London Documentary Project – The royal wedding

When it comes to celebrities news get old very quickly, by the time the tabloids hit the stands couples have already broken up and hooked up with somebody else. Imagine news that are almost two months old, that’s ancient history. That is exactly was this blog post is! When I came back form the trip I was ready to blog about it, but with several projects going on, life got unusually hectic and the post sat unfinished until today. I was ready to deleted, it’s just old news, but I decided to publish it anyway…

At the end of April my parents and I participated in the World Photography Festival in London by the World Photography Organisation. So, besides enjoying London, I got to visit my parents in Cambridge and participate in the festival with them, couldn’t ask for anything else!

Part of the Festival was The London Documentary Project which consisted on a workshop led by Jocelyn Bain Hogg. The challenge was to go out and capture the historic moment of the celebration of the Royal Wedding. With one camera and one lens; no cropping or post processing of any kind was allowed. the best photos were chosen to be part of the exhibit at the Sommerst House . Here ismine and my dad’s.

We Headed to the streets to document the celebration in downtown London. I have to confess that I was a bit apprehensive about being squeeze by hundred of people drinking and celebrating somebody elses’ happiness. The fact is that what we encounter was an environment of celebration and enjoyment of a day off. We went to Hyde Park, accompanied by other 300.000 people, but with plenty of space it didn’t feel crowded. Most gruops were having picnics and drinking their hearts out and cheering for the new couple. Some had weeding cakes and many were dressed as brides, grooms, the queen, or just formal, as of they were waiting for a last minute invitation for the royal banquet. Hyde Park was probably more fun than the banquet itself, and not mad hats required!
