Puja at Thiksey Monastery

This is the first of the series of slideshows about my recent trip to India. Early in the morning monks at Thiksey prepare for Puja. On the rooftop of this Monastery located in Ladakh, India, two monks blow horns while young and old monks prepare their offering and gather for prayer. Although concentrated in their prayers, monks welcomed us and let us photograph them while doing their ritual. Honestly, it felt like we were invading their prayer time, but later we had a conversation with a monk that explained that this is part of the Buddhist philosophy of tolerance and welcoming everybody to the house of God. Of course, it is still important to treat this time with a lot of respect and stay quiet. I’m grateful to them for letting us witness this.
