Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you kept warm during the snow storm and arctic cold.

We are back after a couple of week of family time and having fun in New York. For this trip, for the first time ever, I tried to travel without my camera, that was a first! Not hauling the heavy equipment while herding kids and grandparents in the subway was great, but not having my camera to capture the vibrant city was a little weird. Of course I didn’t go completely hands free. I took a brand new Nikon 1 AW1, which turned out to be a great travel and family camera. It is shock proof (that means Matea proof), freeze proof and water proof. I love the small size (and light weight), I love that I was able to walk around the city and just have my purse, not a heavy camera bag! I allowed me to take more casual pictures of friends having dinner and my kids goofing around in the streets. During Christmas and New Year’s parties I just left it and it went around, so this time I even appear in one photo or two. (usually people are shy to take my big camera). We went skiing in Vermont for a few days and for the first time, I was able to take pictures of my kids on the slopes, the lifts and even in the jacuzzi!

This camera has interchangeable lenses and shoots raw. I will do a more extensive review once I’d played with all the settings and checked the results, this time I just enjoyed the portability. Will I travel without my other cameras again? I don’t think so, but this camera is for sure a great family camera!
